Bréviaire du matricule 082

In her first collection of poetry, Bréviaire du matricule 082, Maya Cousineau Mollen, explores the many pathways of anger: territorial, related to identity or involving the idea of femininity. She sees this first collection as a way to get through the “perilous places” of anger, an emotion that, once tamed, allows the poetic voice to rise.

Maya Cousineau Mollen

An Innu originally from Ekuanitshit (Mingan), Maya Cousineau Mollen has published works in the journals Moebius and Exit, as well as in the collections Languages of Our Land / Langues de notre terre and Amun. Deeply engaged, she founded the Association étudiante autochtone de l’Université Laval and worked for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. She was also involved in the Kanata issue and is Co-Chair of the Steering Committee for the Montreal Indigenous Community NETWORK. Since 2017, she has been a community development advisor for the firm EVOQ Architecture. Her first book of poetry, Bréviaire du matricule 082, earned her a position as finalist at the Indigenous Voices Awards 2020. Calmly enraged, her poetry sings of Indigenous femininity and gives resonance to Innu identity in the territory of Montreal/Muliats/Tio’tia:ke.
