About guest speakers

Garihanna Jean-Louis

Garihanna has been an actress for over two decades and in 2017 was the first Black female comedian to graduate from the École Nationale de l’Humour. With lightning energy and a mango-maple flavoured sense of humour, this dual citizen with several major festivals under her belt loves to share her exotic and colourful world around the globe in three different languages. She has received several awards and merits since her beginnings in comedy. She won the ZOOFEST Artist of the Year Award in 2022, a Gemini Award in 2021, Actress of the Year in 2019, and Discovery of the Year in 2017 and 2018 at the Festival Internationale du Rire, to name but a few.

Her vast and versatile experience as an actress and comedian makes her an excellent moderator and speaker who can solicit and showcase creativity, open-mindedness and sensitivity. She often says that humour is cultural but laughter is universal. What better and more contagious way to communicate than laughing to stay positive, inclusive and open-minded?

Emmanuel Choquette

Emmanuel Choquette is Assistant Professor of Communications in the Department of Communications at the Université de Sherbrooke. He is also a research professor at the Groupe de recherche en communication politique (GRCP), a co-researcher at the Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship (CSDC) and a member of the Observatoire de l’humour (OH).

His work focuses on political communication, discourse strategies, social cohesion, and humour studies. He has conducted postdoctoral research at the UNESCO-Prev Chair and the Research Centre on Social Innovation and Transformation (CRITS), aiming to develop effective communication strategies to combat hate speech.

He is also interested in the representation and “negative stereotyping” of cultural and religious minorities in public space, particularly through humorous discourses.

STÉPHANIE VERRAULT LAMONTAGNE

Stéphanie has always been passionate about content. She started her career in the early 2000s, juggling research and production for multicultural magazines. In 2009, she chose to devote herself to research and screenwriting, and touched on several different formats: documentary series on history and music, cultural magazines, daily newspapers, galas and variety shows.

One thing led to another, and she became a content producer, notably on productions such as Zone franche (Télé-Québec), Un nouveau jour and Une fois c’t’un Noir (Bell Media), La belle vie (Unis TV) and Viens souper (AMI-TV), and continues in this role today on several documentary projects produced by the TV department of URBANIA.

Her openness and curiosity about humanity and underground worlds, as well as her vast knowledge of the Quebec television environment, make her an asset to the teams she has worked with for 20 years.
