In June, in recognition of National Indigenous History Month, the McCord Stewart Museum honours the cultures and traditions of First Peoples through its permanent exhibition and a series of activities open to all audiences. Engage with Indigenous perspectives through experiences that foster discovery, dialogue, and reflection.

Kanien’kehá:ka Women Filmmakers’ Voices and Perspectives

Screenings | Free activity | Reservation required

To mark the 35th anniversary of the Kanehsatake Resistance, the Museum presents a double-feature screening of Beans and Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance that offers two perspectives on this pivotal moment in history, through the eyes of two Indigenous women filmmakers.

L’étoile du jour

Dive into an experience on the mountain of Tiohtia:ke (Montreal) island with multidisciplinary artist Jocelyn Sioui, as he reads the story of Wenta’yeh’Tichion (L'étoile du jour). This is a story that looks to the past while staying rooted in the present, and in the land.

Rethinking Our Relationship to Nature

Attend a performance of an original song that combines Inuit throat singing with pop music by Joey Partridge and Simon Walls, and a conversation between Ghislain Picard and Corine Pelluchon on philosophy and Indigenous traditions.

Natu-natshishkueu: The adventure of connection

Through observation, imagination and discussion, children and adults connect with Indigenous nations by exploring the permanent exhibition, the Museum’s Indigenous Cultures collection, and the many stories it holds.

Indigenous Voices of Today: Knowledge, Trauma, Resilience

The exhibition bears witness to the still unrecognized knowledge of Indigenous peoples in Quebec and Canada as well as the deep wounds they carry and their incredible resilience.

About one hundred carefully selected objects from the Museum’s Indigenous Cultures collection are combined with more than eighty powerful inspiring stories (texts and videos) from members of the 11 Indigenous nations in Quebec
