Student Poster Contest
From March 31, to April 26, 2026
Marc H. Choko Scholarships
Annual Design Competition Organized by SDGQ
From March 31 to April 26, 2026, in the McCord Stewart Museum Atrium! These posters on the theme “Overconsumption” were selected from among the submissions to Société des designers graphiques du Québec (SDGQ) annual design competition for the Marc H. Choko Scholarships.
This annual competition, in its twelfth edition, is intended for students enrolled in a graphic design program in a college or university that is officially recognized by the Québec government. It aims to develop their skills and encourage them to work in the field of poster design, especially in the context of promoting a cause for the common good.
Overconsumption
What if we were to redefine social norms to promote more sustainable solutions? Buying secondhand, consuming less, renting, sharing… these are all simple actions that can transform our habits and reduce our environmental footprint.
Advertising will always be present in our lives. But despite its constant barrage, we can learn to stop and question ourselves before buying—especially when it comes to day-to-day items like clothing, electronics, and household appliances. Can it be repaired, repurposed, or traded in?
For larger or more costly items, the questions could be different: Can it be borrowed or bought secondhand? What is the brand? Where is it made? Is it good quality, reliable, efficient? Today more than ever, consumers need to demand greater transparency about products before they choose.
For the 2025-2026 contest, SDGQ decided to team up with Equiterre
Founded in 1993, Équiterre, through its demonstration, research, support, education, mobilization, and awareness-building initiatives, contributes to the emergence of tangible solutions, the transformation of social norms, and the adoption of public policies. Its mission is to encourage new dietary, production, consumption, and transportation habits that are low carbon, respectful of our ecosystems, designed for our regions and their communities, and in line with social justice.
Selection criteria
The criteria for the selection of the 15 posters chosen and 3 top prizes awarded were the clarity of the message, the novelty of the idea, the harmonious integration of the visuals and typography and their quality, as well as the quality of the project as a whole.
