Workshop – Looking after our stories in Tiohtiá:ke
Free Activity | Space is limited, No reservation required
The Museum invites you to take part in a new workshop developed in collaboration with Je suis Montréal.
In this citizen-led co-creation workshop, participants will listen to stories from Chinese, Afro-descendant and Indigenous communities that are too often left untold. Examining 19th- and 20th-century photographs of Montreal from the Museum’s Photography collection, participants are invited to reflect on the presence or absence of objects and figures that contribute to their own sense of wellbeing in the city.
This reflection is supported by a set of magnetized images to be placed alongside these photographs. Each participant offers the next their vision of a Montreal they experience as welcoming, while discovering and drawing inspiration from the visions of others.
The activity is presented in French and English, and is recommended for children 8 and up.
Je suis Montréal
Je suis Montréal is a platform that aims to challenge the dominant understanding of Montreal and Quebec identity in order to give a sense of belonging to all queer, trans, Black, Indigenous and people of colour (QTBIPOC). The organization’s goal is to bring forward those who have been historically excluded and often forgotten through art projects, discussions and panels on themes such as social inclusion, engagement, identity and belonging. Je suis Montréal believes art can be used as soft power to change our cultural and social fabric.
