Céline in Dior: A Dazzling Moment
Until September 7, 2026, the Museum presents the North American premiere of the exquisite Christian Dior Couture gown worn by Céline Dion during her unforgettable performance from the Eiffel Tower at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Created especially for Céline Dion by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s Artistic Director from 2016 to 2025, this gown showcases outstanding craftsmanship and required more than 1,000 hours of work. Previously shown in Paris and Seoul, this haute couture piece is the focal point of an intimate and exclusive experience. Revealed in a striking exhibition design conceived by Pierre-Étienne Locas, it is brought into a rare, up-close encounter at the heart of large-scale projections that draw visitors back into the breathtaking performance of Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” by the stellar Quebec singer.
Céline in Dior: A Dazzling Moment pays tribute to an iconic performer, and to a moment that captured hearts, embodied in a dress.
Duration of the immersive experience: 10 minutes.
A sustainable approach rooted in environmental responsibility
Reducing the environmental footprint
Mindful of environmental issues and convinced that museums have a role to play in the transition to a more sustainable future, the McCord Stewart Museum has set itself the goal of minimizing the amount of waste produced by its exhibitions.
Throughout the design and production of the Céline in Dior exhibition, the Museum implemented the following eco-design strategies to reduce its environmental impact: the reuse or rental of supplies, the use of more eco-friendly materials, and the support of a dedicated in-house team and a network of committed external partners.
The central display case was designed and constructed almost entirely with glass panels, platforms and black acrylic sheets from the Museum’s inventory. Both Museum staff and the team at Espace Montage contributed to the successful mounting of the finished product.
All of the audio-visual equipment came from the Museum’s inventory, while the lighting was created using a combination of existing Museum supplies, rental equipment and newly purchased items.
The design team explored the possibility of renting or buying second-hand curtains, but was unable to find a sufficient number of identical panels for the project. The curtains were therefore purchased new. However, plans have already been made to recycle these items: some of the curtains will be added to the Museum’s inventory and others will be donated to Écoscéno, a partner organization whose mission is to support the artistic community by reducing the environmental impact of cultural productions.
