Screening and discussion – documentary Fashion Reimagined

Paid activity | Space is limited, reservation required.

In the run-up to Earth Day, attend a screening of the documentary Fashion Reimagined, presented in collaboration with the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA)

The screening will be followed by a short presentation on environmental issues in the fashion industry with Vanessa Mardirossian, doctoral candidate, whose research-creation work is based on an iterative approach combining textile design, chemistry and environmental health and a session of discussions and questions with the public.

Fashion Reimagined

Amy Powney, the designer behind cult label Mother of Pearl, is a rising star on the London fashion scene. Raised off-the-grid in rural England by activist parents, Amy has always felt uneasy about the devastating environmental impact of her industry. When she wins the coveted Vogue award for the Best Young Designer of the Year, Amy decides to use the prize money to create a sustainable collection and transform her entire business. In three years, her personal revolution becomes the prelude to major societal and industrial change.

About

Vanessa Mardirossian

Vanessa Mardirossian is pursuing doctoral studies at Concordia. Her research-creation work is based on an iterative approach combining textile design, chemistry and environmental health. Vanessa holds a B.A. in Fashion Design from École Duperré, in Paris, and an M.A. in Textile Design from UAL, in London. She has worked as a textile designer in the fashion industry for over 20 years.

Concerned about the environmental impact of textiles, Vanessa works to develop textile designers’ ecological awareness, to prevent toxic textiles from entering the supply chain. She has won numerous awards from Hexagram, the Sustainability Action Fund, the Textiles and Materiality Research Cluster and the Colour Research Society of Canada. Since 2017, she has also been teaching at the École supérieure de mode – ESG UQAM, with a focus on sustainability.
