Martin Margiela In His Own Words

Martin Margiela In His Own Words is an unique portrait of the greatest mystery in fashion history. The designer still inspires many of his young peers today, but no one knows what he looks like. He remains a real enigma. Exclusively for this documentary, he finally agreed to speak on record, to walk us through his career and talk about his youth.

Reiner Holzemer leads Margiela to explain why he created Maison Martin Margiela and after 20 years and 41 provocative collections, to change course and leave the fashion world without a public announcement. The director takes on the challenge of painting a fascinating portrait of the “Banksy of fashion”: the hands and voice of the designer tell an untold personal story.

Martin Margiela In His Own Words, Germany, 2019, 90 min, Reiner Holzemer.
In English, subtitles in French.

Azzedine Alaïa, un couturier français

From the Tunisia of the 30s where he was born, to the Marais in Paris where he established his fashion house and workshops, follow the exceptional career of Azzedine Alaïa (1935-2017), the farmer’s son who would become the last great French couturier. After learning his craft in the shadows, he triumphed in the 80s with his form-fitting style and established himself among the greats. Drawn heavily from the archives, this portrait reveals a secretive and unassuming creator who was able to prove that his craft was above all an art.

Azzedine Alaïa, un couturier français, France, 2021, 53 min, Olivier Nicklaus.
In French.
