Join a guided tour of the exhibition Mother Memory Cellophane by Séamus Gallagher, presented in collaboration with MOMENTA Biennale de l’image, and give free rein to your creativity in a mask-making workshop. Highlight different facets of your personality and blur the boundaries of identity.

Taking inspiration from Séamus Gallagher’s work and guided by artist and educator Maria Ezcurra, this workshop is a chance to express yourself freely and create an alter ego with various materials. A photo shoot will also let you embody your character.

About

Maria Ezcurra, MFA, Ph. D.

Maria Ezcurra is an Argentinian, Mexican and Canadian artist, teacher and mother living in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal since 2010. Her work has been exhibited numerous times in Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, and elsewhere. She has also developed many public, participatory and community art projects in various contexts. Ezcurra holds a doctorate in arts education and currently teaches at McGill University.

She is a recipient of the Prix de la diversité en arts visuels of the Conseil des arts de Montréal (2019) and the Prix Powerhouse from La Centrale galerie (2022) and was a top-five finalist for the Prix d’Art Contemporain of the MNBAQ in 2023. Her research focuses on participatory artistic practices, gendered dress and embodiment, memory, identity, belonging and immigration.    

MOMENTA Créatif

MOMENTA Creative cultural mediation program offers a series of educational activities, creative workshops and guided tours, as part of each edition of MOMENTA biennale de l’image. Free, inclusive and accessible, our cultural mediation program is produced in collaboration with artists and nonprofit organizations and is designed for groups, families and individuals. Since 2017, MOMENTA Creative has created over 25 workshops, given over 1,000 guided tours, and hosted over 20,000 participants.

MOMENTA Biennale de l’image

MOMENTA Biennale de l’image is a contemporary art dissemination and mediation platform that operates year-round with ongoing activities. The organization stands out for the position it takes and the questions it asks on the place of the image in today’s societies. Among MOMENTA’s wide range of activities, the biennial is a flagship event presented in partnership with exhibition partners from all over the world. Based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal, MOMENTA has been organizing exhibitions, digital projects, public programs, creative workshops, and collaborations of all kinds for over 30 years.
