Laura has been a photographer at the Museum for over 6 years. She is in charge of photographing objects in the collection for archival purposes, exhibitions, publications, advertising and communications. She tells us about her role in the production of the book Costume Balls: Dressing Up History, 1870-1927, as well as her contribution to documenting the work of the restoration and mounting teams.

A century and a half ago, extravagant costume balls and skating carnivals were the pinnacle of society entertainments, bringing forth a kaleidoscopic array of fanciful costumed characters and providing a unique opportunity to reinvent oneself as a historical figure. But, beneath all the anachronistic exuberance, these balls reinforced core myths of colonial destiny and imperial futures.
