Christian Dior: The Man Behind the Myth
This February, the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) and the McCord Museum have organized a full program of documentaries about Christian Dior and the world of fashion.
Christian Dior: The Man Behind the Myth
1947. Against all odds in a post-war France, a young designer imposed his vision of women and elegance on the whole world. Christian Dior restored French fashion to the predominant position it had held before the war and quickly became a legend. In 10 years, he fully transformed the face of haute couture, but the man himself had nothing of the extroverted, flamboyant fashion designer about him.
Christian Dior was a simple reserved-looking man, uncomfortable with his socialite status. His childhood in Granville, the image of his mother as well as his passion for flowers and architecture were all major influences that eventually reconciled him with his double persona shortly before his untimely death in 1957.
