Conversation – The Montreal Olympic Games: Legacy and Outlook
Free conversation • Paid guided tour[Sold-out] | Space is limited, Reservation required
As Montreal marks the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Olympic Games, this conversation looks back at the lasting impact of a defining moment in the city’s history. Beyond the athletic achievements, how did the Games reshape Montreal’s urban landscape, its identity and the ways its now-iconic sites are used? What physical and symbolic traces remain today? And what lessons can Montreal’s experience, along with that of other Olympic host cities, offer as we consider the future of these sites in a rapidly changing urban environment?
Inspired by the City Talks, this discussion brings together Taïka Baillargeon, Assistant Policy Director at Héritage Montréal, and Romain Roult, Professor and Chair of the Department of Leisure, Culture and Tourism Studies at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR). Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Montreal 1976: An Olympic Feat and in partnership with Héritage Montréal, the conversation will draw on selected elements from the exhibition as a starting point for reflection.
A ticketed guided tour of Montreal 1976: An Olympic Feat (in French) will take place prior to the conversation, from 5 to 5:45 p.m.
